The Path of Japan's Nikkei:
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper discussing conditions within Japan's stock market since 1989. That year, the Nikkei average approached 40,000 but it lost more than 60 percent of
that value by the end of 1990. After some false starts, the Nikkei appeared to be recovering but the Asian currency crisis and the fall of the Japanese banking industry curtailed that advance. The market appears to have stabilized, and the nation's economy is healthier as well. The paper recommends that investors still use caution, however. Foreign funds are pouring into Tokyo, but
locals have been selling for months. There may be further corrections in the market, but it is seen to be on a path of overall growth. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
