When Vladimir Nabokov wrote Lolita he did not set out to write a controversial book about pedophilia, but a book that had it's roots in the firmament of American reality and was about love. Lolita is principally a love story. It is a story about an older man in love with the forbidden, with youth and with the American culture that idealizes that youth.
