StinkyCheese and the Gingerbread Man
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) Almost all of us love stories. There is even an old legend that the reason God created humans so that there would be someone to tell him the stories. Generally they are adapted or sanitized depending on the age in which they are told, and sometimes by the storyteller himself. And sometimes the story teller may just wonder what would happened if you just changed a certain part. Such is the case of The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales by Jon Scieszka (1992) and Lane Smith (illustrator). In this discussion we will look both at the "stinky cheese man" and his predecessor through the work of Maria Tatar, in the 1998 version of The Classic Fairy Tales. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
In this excellently-prepared 7 page essay, the writer argues that motifs in modern stories such as Superman are actually derived from those of ancient mythology. Comparisons are made between Superman's weakness for Krypton and Achilles' heel... -or--the Norse god Balder,-- who was immune to everything except mistletoe. Moreover, just as Theseus had Ariadne, Superman had Lois Lane. Similarly, Aeneas can be compared to Clark Kent etc; No Bibliography.

The Battle of Zeus and Typhon and Parallels in Hindu and Zoroastrian Myth
[ send me this paper ]
This 4 page report discusses the fact that some of the world’s most fascinating stories and myths are surprisingly similar despite the thousands of miles and years between lands and cultures. They each follow a very similar pattern, although that of the battle between Zeus and Typhon is the most well-delineated and graphically-portrayed of any of them. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
