Mercury: The Hottest Planet?
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page overview of the reasons behind the common misperception that Mercury is the hottest planet in its solar system because of its proximity to the Sun. This paper points out the recent discovery of planets which are even closer to the Sun as well as the fact that Venus (which is further from the Sun than Mercury) is actually hotter. The reason for that phenomenon is explained. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Natural Gas as a Fuel in Diesel Engines
[ send me this paper ]
An 18 page paper discussing research in
introducing natural gas as an enhancer for diesel fuel. Natural gas cannot fully substitute for
any fuel in any type of internal combustion engine, but there have been attempts to use a
pilot injection of diesel followed by injection of natural gas. The nature of natural gas is
such that the diesel's continuous air supply is detrimental. The pilot diesel - natural gas
combination has been successful in single-cylinder engines, but in no other diesel engines of
any greater number of cylinders. Includes 2 diagrams and a chart. Bibliography lists 8
sources.

Newton's Theory of Light # 2
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page overview. Though Isaac Newton's calculus and mechanical theory still holds firm after nearly 400 years of attempts to disprove them, about all that remains intact of Newton's theory of light is that sunlight is indeed a mixture of all the colors of the spectrum and can be split, as Newton demonstrated, into its separate physical components by means of a prism. Many still refer to him as the greatest scientist who ever lived, and the failure of his full theory of light to withstand the test of time and technological advances in investigative procedures and methods still does not detract from Newton's genius. Bibliography lists four sources.
