Alex Kotlowitz's "There Are No Children Here"/ Sociological Analysis
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper that presents a review of Kotlowitz's book with consideration for the elements of social and racial concerns, as well as the psychological impacts of life in the Chicago housing projects. Kotlowitz's book is a case study, a social commentary and a journalistic representation that focuses on one families struggle in the gang controlled ghetto. The two younger boys in the Rivers family, Lafayette and Pharoah were the impetus for Kotlowitz study, but his exploration into the rest of the family, the social interactions in the projects, and the social and cultural implications of this lifestyle is significant to the book as a whole.
